Furano is located at the geographical center of Hokkaido. It is on the doorstep of the Daisetsuzan National Park, known as the ‘Playground of the Gods’ by the indigenous Hokkaido people.
Tokachidake is just across the valley and is Hokkaido’s premier backcountry zone. To the north, there is the lift accessed backcountry of Asahidake, the highest mountain in Hokkaido. Ski
