Avalanche Skills Training

Play safer in the mountains by increasing your awareness of the backcountry. The Avalanche Skills Training (AST) is an introductory course that will provide you with the knowledge and skills to use avalanche safety equipment, recognize avalanche terrain, conduct various snow stability tests and perform a self-rescue, which are all essential skills for skiing off-piste or in the backcountry. For more information Click here.

The AST course is recognized by the Canadian Avalanche Association and uses the eAvaluatorf system, a seven point scale based on 1,400 previous avalanche accidents to determine whether a trip out of bounds is advisable or not. For more information Click here.

AST Course A will be held with a presentation on the first night and then one day in the field followed by a night session. The field day we will use the lifts to access the back or side-country. This course is ideal for those using the lifts to exit resort boundaries in to off-piste and backcountry terrain.

AST Course B will be held over 2 full days in the field and 4 hours of classroom session on the first night. The first day we will utilize the lifts to access the back or side-country areas from the resort and the second day we will access a more remote area. This course is suited to those who intend to access the backcountry on skins or snow-shoes.
